Romans: the gospel our church needs

How do you get a church excited about supporting mission? How do you address ethnic tensions and division in a church? The Apostle Paul’s answer to both these questions is – the gospel of Jesus Christ. He knows that the best way to stir up and encourage and strengthen and unite and bless the church in Rome (as any church) is by preaching to them again, in quite some detail, the height and breadth and length and depth of the love of God in the rescue of rebels, the justification of sinners, the salvation, adoption and glorification of a God’s chosen people.

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory for evermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.

So the new Watumishi wa Yesu Bible study guide (English language) from iServe Africa walks us through the whole letter to the Romans in 20 studies, not burdening us with lots of secondary material but just asking some penetrating questions that help us hear the letter and feel the force of this gospel of Jesus Christ afresh.
